Herschel Walker is a football legend who, in case you weren’t already aware, played football when the helmets were soft. He’s also still very trash.
The Daily Beast published a bombshell October surprise that accuses the pro-life Georgia Senate candidate of paying for a woman’s abortion in 2009, even though a key tenet of his campaign is that he is staunchly anti-choice. Walker has been on record endorsing a total ban on abortions, even in cases of incest or rape. In reality, as The Daily Beast proves, he’s open to making exceptions in cases where it may inconvenience or embarrass him.
Roger Sollenberger’s investigative piece comes with some hard proof, too. There’s a get well soon card signed by Walker and verification of a $700 check written by him. They’ve got all of the receipts—including an actual receipt from where the procedure took place.
A short time after this news went live, Walker’s son Christian (an admittedly funny yet insane right-wing nut job) went scorched earth on Twitter, as he was understandably tired of his dad—a real-life Franklin Delanor Bluth—lying about who he really is for the duration of his campaign.
“You’re not a “family man” when you left us to bang a bunch of women, threatened to kill us, and had us move over 6 times in 6 months running from your violence,” he wrote in one tweet, adding in another: “how DARE YOU LIE and act as though you’re some “moral, Christian, upright man.” You’ve lived a life of DESTROYING other peoples lives. How dare you.”
Christian has become a minor Internet celebrity for his off-the-rails TikToks and tweets, many of them denigrating men for “banging” women who aren’t their wives, refusing to take care of their children, and leaving disaster in their wakes. It’s no wonder why he talks about this so much; he lived it. It’s awful. Nobody deserves this, but before you go feeling too sorry for him, go look up anything Christian Walker has ever said about critical race theory.
This scandal will likely only move the needle just a little bit, if at all. If Walker's opponent, Rev. Raphael Warnock, wins, it’s because he was always going to win. As awful and stupid as Walker is, he still pales in comparison to Donald Trump, who Republicans voted for in droves for many different reasons. The most generous and base of them all is the fact that Trump could have done or said anything. Everybody knew he was a dangerous moron. This doesn’t matter to GOPers, and it never will, as long as dangerous morons bring them more power.
