Summer 2022 is officially the season of the hoochie daddy short. So it’s only right that the clothing item that has had men’s thighs in a chokehold for months has its own theme music. Salute!
Earlier this week, the Fresno, California-based DJ Kay Rich unleashed “Hoochie Daddy,” a Draft-produced song dedicated to men who have been flaunting the fruits of leg day. The track, which interpolates 2 Live Crew’s “We Want Some Pussy,” is perfect for stepping out and showing those stems. (Think: Duice’s “Dazzey Duks (Daisy Dukes)” for the fellas.)
“Hoochie Daddy” begins with a woman rounding up the troops: “Ladies, they got these shorts on, these hoochie daddy shorts. They got these four-inch seams, they got they thighs out — cat call!” The accompanying video features women doing just that, subverting the patriarchy and objectifying dudes wearing shorts that hover dangerously above the knee. (Sample: “Aye, grey shorts! Your girlfriend said you can’t have friends?”)
“Grab your shorts, and raise ’em up high/It’s hoochie daddy season ’cause it’s hot outside!” chants DJ Kay Rich, who has previously collaborated with Flo Rida, Sage the Gemini, Fashawn and Problem.
While the 56-second song is shorter than short-shorts and seems made to promote the associated merch—a pair of Champion shorts with the words HOOCHIE DADDY screen-printed across the front in green and orange—it nonetheless slaps like exposed thighs.
Take the new track as a call to action: Tis' the season to be hoochie, so throw on those shorts, roll up, cuff, and show some skin. But first, check out “Hoochie Daddy” and its video clip below.
