Rarely do you see job listings from racists saying explicitly what they're looking for, but give credit to one candid job-posting writer: They said the quiet part out loud.
Last week, a Virginia IT staffing company called Arthur Grand Technologies posted a listing on Indeed.com advertising a $75-an-hour business analyst job out of Dallas. The only catch? They were seeking "Only Born US Citizens [White] who are local within 60 miles from Dallas, TX [Don't share with candidates]." Oops!
As reported by Vice, the company faced immediate blowback for the very illegal listing, causing Arthur Grand Technologies to disable its Twitter account, Facebook page, and website. (The site is now back online, but the Twitter and Facebook are still gone as of this writing.)
The company posted an explanation on LinkedIn that blamed the listing on a former employee who "took an existing posting and added discriminatory language, then reposted it through his own account." This wasn't consistent with the company's earlier explanation, which explained that it was done by a new junior recruiter, whom the company said was immediately fired.
This isn't some fly-by-night company; its clients include Staples, the IRS, Comcast, and Berkshire Hathaway. Its LinkedIn suggests the company is very into "digital transformation" initiatives. Let's hope that digital future isn't just a throwback to the Jim Crow days.
