Given the year she’s had, I trust that Megan Thee Stallion knows a useless Black man when she spots one. And Daniel Cameron is not a hard Negro to peg. None of his kind ever are.
In her SNL debut over the weekend, Megan briefly paused her performance of “Savage” to condemn the Kentucky attorney general for his handling of Breonna Taylor’s case. Cameron has been widely condemned for claiming the officers responsible for the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor were “justified” in their actions at a press conference last month. It is because of Cameron’s presentation of the case to the grand jury that they decided to indict only a single officer involved in Taylor’s killing — and for a lesser charge related to endangering her neighbors.
After playing an audio clip of Tamika Mallory declaring that “Daniel Cameron is no different than the sellout Negroes that sold our people into slavery,” Megan herself noted, “We need to protect our Black women and love our Black women ‘cause at the end of the day, we need our Black women.”
In response, Cameron appeared on Tuesday’s edition of Fox & Friends (where else?) to lie, deflect, and play victim.
“Let me just say I agree that we need to love and protect our Black women,” Cameron said when asked about Megan’s performance. “There’s no question about that. But the fact that someone would get on national television and make disparaging comments about me because I’m simply trying to do my job is disgusting.”
Instead, Cameron opted to portray himself as brave — simply for swinging from the jock of Jim Crow in 2020.
I have to admit that I struggled to write this column because if I had my way, I would have simply written “Fuck this n***a” until my hands grew sore. That’s how I feel about this waste of Black skin and even bigger waste of all of our time. Of all the insults Megan Thee Stallion could have hurled at Daniel Cameron on national television, playing audio of Tamika Mallory calling him a sellout was a gift and he should be grateful.
Instead, Cameron opted to portray himself as brave — simply for swinging from the jock of Jim Crow in 2020.
“But what you saw on the screen there and what your viewers saw is something that I’ve had to experience because I’m a Black Republican because I stand for truth and justice as opposed to giving in to a mob mentality,” the awful Carlton Banks reboot claimed. “And those are the sorts of things that will be hurled at me in this job.”
They don’t ever differ from the script, do they?
Cameron proceeded to note that he isn’t hurt by the comments, though, “it exposes the type of intolerance… and the hypocrisy.” To Cameron, “It’s her espousing intolerance because I’ve decided to stand up for truth and justice.” And just so you know, he added, “There are a lot of folks who look like me that aren’t scared anymore — that are tired of the comments and the derogatory remarks because of our political philosophy.”
Yet there he is, bitching and whining about the audio the H-Town Hottie played about him on TV.
For the record, you don’t have to respect anyone who doesn’t deserve respect. I can’t think of any type of person less deserving of respect than a man that stood before the world and said Breonna Taylor’s killing was “justified.” Like I said, fuck Daniel Cameron.
I know that Black people have complex political views, but those who claim Republican in this age are a particular bunch. They could care less about equity for all; their endgame is to get as close in proximity to whiteness as possible and enjoy the perks, the rest of us be damned.
I never expected Daniel Cameron to give Breonna Taylor justice, but I also didn’t anticipate him acting so smug at that press conference. To stand there and intimate that she deserved to die when cops stormed her house with a no-knock warrant looking for shit that wasn’t there.
As I sat there watching that presser, seething, I could tell Daniel Cameron was basking in the attention on Breonna Taylor and exploiting it to boost his profile. We have all had a hell of a year, but some sights are more disturbing than others. What he did that day was unforgivable.
I would be less indignant about it all if Cameron didn’t choose to continue to act so sanctimoniously. “At the end of the day, my responsibility is to provide facts and truth and represent and stand up for justice,” Cameron claimed. Be wary of people who can lie like this with a straight face about someone else’s life.
Yes, lie. Many of the claims Cameron made at that September 23 presser have been challenged by attorneys and leaked evidence. Last week, a grand juror stepped forward to request that audio of the proceedings be released along with permission to speak freely about the process. According to reporting from the New York Times, one juror “said Mr. Cameron was deflecting blame by saying it was jurors who had opted not to indict the two officers.” It appears that jurors had only received recommendations to charge former detective Brett Hankison, and were not aware they could levy harsher charges against Hankison and the officers who shot Taylor, Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly and Det. Myles Cosgrove.
And now a second juror is interested in stepping forward. CNN reports that Louisville activist Christopher 2X, head of Game Changers, has been contacted by that juror on how to proceed. As of now, they will wait until the first juror’s hearing on Thursday before moving forward.
In addition, attorneys for Breonna Taylor’s family have asked Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear to appoint a new special prosecutor to reopen the case — alleging that Daniel Cameron “intentionally” did not present homicide charges against three White officers that shot Taylor.
Do you think Daniel Cameron is disgusted by any of this? Cameron wants to take Megan’s performance and use it to pump a narrative about mean celebrities not liking a Black Republican. That’s useful fodder for the old bigots watching Fox News, but it won’t change his reality: He is a Black man who looks to have gone above and beyond to protect White cops that killed a Black woman — all while thinking he could get away with it.
Daniel Cameron is a liar, a hypocrite, and yes, a sellout. He may not like being called that, but he should start worrying more about what people are going to call him in the coming days, weeks, and months ahead as more is revealed about his mishandling of this case.
Megan Thee Stallion was right to call him out, but none of us should take our foot off of Daniel Cameron’s neck.
