After a sentencing hearing that dragged on for two days, the Canadian rapper Tory Lanez was finally sentenced to 10 years of prison time for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot in 2020.
The 31-year-old rapper pleaded not guilty but a jury in December found him guilty of three felony charges. NBC News reports that the rapper apologized to the court and took full responsibility for the shooting while wearing an orange jumpsuit at the hearing.
"If I could change it, I would but I can't," he told the court. "Everything I did that night, I take full responsibility. I truly am just trying to be a better person."

Despite the apology, Lanez's legal team plans to appeal the sentencing as well as the conviction. Megan Thee Stallion described her suffering in testimony in the form of a written statement during the hearing saying she couldn't be in the same room with Lanez. She described being attacked by the rapper's followers after the incident. She was hoping for the maximum punishment, which would have been 22 years of jail time.

In a weird twist, Iggy Azalea was dragged online for writing a letter of support for Lanez before the sentencing was announced. She said she is in favor of prison reform and never meant for the letter to go public.
